Artist’s Statement & Brief Bio

Ellen Lovelidge creates acrylic paintings on canvas inspired by the balance between nature and the built world. Using vibrant colors and thoughtful juxtapositions, she examines the richness and possibility found in overlooked details. Her work encourages viewers to notice the harmony and contrast of patterns in the world around them.

Ellen began exploring art in childhood with guidance from her grandmother, artist Audrey Fuller (1929–2015), who taught art and owned the Aquarius Art Shop in Drexel Hill, PA, during the 1970s. Ellen painted and experimented with many other artistic mediums throughout her teenage years and later took art classes at Penn State University, including courses with Professor Dorotha Lemeh. For the past 20 years, Ellen has built a successful professional career as an interaction designer and creative technologist, alongside work as a DJ, branding designer, and illustrator.

In 2024, Ellen completed a Specialized Program in Painting at UC Berkeley Extension. Originally from the Baltimore, MD area and now living in Northern California, Ellen finds inspiration in the work of Grace Hartigan and Wayne Thiebaud.
